Designer Genes – how a mother’s passion for wallpaper inspired her daughter’s career path.

Chelsea Lane & Co. Owner, Chelsea Viau.

Just off the busy streets of West Palm Beach’s Rosemary Square is Chelsea Lane & Co, a full service interior design showroom and lifestyle boutique which specializes in wall coverings and textiles.

The shop itself is light and bright and Palm Beachy in all the right ways, with a special flare uniquely its own.

It’s the kind of place you walk into, and immediately realize your living room is begging for a makeover.

The aforementioned flare can be largely attributed to its owner and visionary – Chelsea, of course – who comes by her passion honestly.

It’s in her genes!

“My mom has been installing wallpaper since before I was born, so I’ve been around it my entire life,” says Viau.

Now eleven years in business, Chelsea had a clear perspective on her long-term plan earlier than most.

So much so that she didn’t wait to finish college before getting into the business; she managed to juggle both a degree and a store opening at the same time!

She’s called the Fern Street location home for just over two years, though she’s planted roots in a number of other places prior.

“We’ve actually been all over,” she says.

“We started in Northwood, then Downtown Lake Worth, then Dixie…and now here.”

For clients avoiding the downtown scene in favor of a more private, at-home experience, there’s even another option aside from the physical space: the mobile library.

“The client will send us pictures of their home, then we lug all the books, bring all the samples…we’ll go through all the selections, measure, and give them an estimate right there,” shared Chelsea.

Though wallpaper is the piece de resistance, the business offers so much more.

“We specialize in fabrics and wall coverings, but we do full service interior design. So someone can walk in and we can design their entire home from scratch. Every single piece of furniture, hardware, lighting…”

This goes for residential projects as well as commercial – including a very exciting upcoming restaurant with a unique angle.

We wish we could give you more details but…sometimes we have to keep secrets over here!

Okay fine, one hint: it’ll be popping up in the very hip warehouse district soon.

Chelsea has a team of six, but like so many of our beloved local business owners, is hands on at every touchpoint, and is always looking for ways to feed her creativity.

“Everything I look at, I try and see with a design sense or artistic sense. Even going to the beach for the day, I get inspiration from that experience,” she says.

Chelsea describes her aesthetic as “modern eclectic”, which definitely resonates when you walk into the store.

Funnily enough, this is somewhere she strays from the style of her mom.

“She’s a maximalist,” Chelsea says jokingly.

With the influx of new residents here in Palm Beach, we were curious which trends she saw emerging as of late.

“A lot of vinyl textures, and a lot of murals,” she shared.

Last question: her favorite room in the house to wallpaper?

“The powder room,” She answered quickly. “You can just get wild and do something really fun.”

Stopping by the store can get you more than just inspiration – clients can receive design services on wallpaper and fabrics, totally complimentary.

Once you land on a project, their in-house upholsterers will help make those interior dreams a reality.

Custom sofa, anyone? It can be yours in 3-4 weeks!

Heading back North soon? They both ship items and travel for projects across the entire country.

What are you waiting for?

Quit scrolling those home makeover Instagram accounts and get into the store.
